Capital Tracker

Beta Version

ReFED's Capital Tracker makes it easy to monitor the flow of capital into food waste, allowing both funders and solution providers to understand the landscape, identify key players, and plan out future funding strategies.

Capital Tracker is being launched in beta version to allow ReFED to collect feedback from initial users and iterate as needed. The tool includes private investment data from PitchBook and philanthropic funding data from IRS Form 990-PFs. We will be adding government funding data in the coming months. There is a two year philanthropic data release lag from IRS which impacts the deal count in 2020 onwards. Data set only includes transactions of $5k and greater. For further details, visit our methodology.

Note: there were one-off transactions for the following years that skew the data.

  • 2013: Darling International’s $618M acquisition of Rothsay.
  • 2015: AgroFresh’s $626M reverse merger.
  • 2018: Kroger’s $727M acquisition of Home Chef.
  • 2022: Imperfect Foods acquisition by Misfits Market deal value is unknown.
